anyone know or done it.
if I can get the eprom from damaged usdm p73 ecu and solder it on the usdm p72 ecu will it work or the obd2b ecus are completely different circuit unlike obd1
I was doing some reading about the obd2 chipping.seems like it didn't take off too well and not much is available to do that even for diy

I didn't mean eprom I meant the stock cpu/chip
take it from a usdm p73 ecu and solder it into a usdm p72 ecu instead of buying a p73 ecu. they are pretty hard to find in obd2b for good price. I was thinking it would be easier to source a damaged one with a good chip that I can take and use on a p72 obd2b
I can solder just cant find if it will work or not

Sorry OP, I don't know if the factory Type R chip will work in a GSR ECU. One would assume it would, but who knows for sure due to there being different board circuitry between ECUs even in OBD-0 ECUs... Most people would just go and buy the right ECU.

I know I missed a stupid deal few weeks ago for 100 bucks it was almost brand new too.
but if anyone has a busted itr ecu I would try and report back here

the chip addressing is different obviously, however the physical circuits are nearly identical (excluding IAB). but if you properly install an OBD2 P73 chip in an OBD2 P72 ECU, it should operate like a P73. theoretically.
*edit although I think it's very plausible it would work, it is NOT easy to desolder and/or resolder 84-pin surface mount chips. seems more feasible to just EPROM a P28.

I soldered 2 pieces of discman circuit board together after breaking it in half. and it worked for 2 months so soldering is not a problem lol
I was thinking the circuitry shouldn't be that different knowing Honda wouldn't design a different circuit board or each car they just add or delete few components like in all their other ecus of same family
but if anyone is willing to donate a busted p73 board or even cut out the chip I pay shipping and will try

Thanks for the insight.
No problem. Here is a write-up on it actually... (pics don't work anymore)

Then here are instructions for the P73 patch in CROME (hope you know how to read foreign languages):

Even more detail about chipping:
Chipping OBDII
I can't seem to find the original guide to this stuff (used to be very interested in the OBD2 chipping concept as I thought it was the future of EMS) but from what I remember the chip that was used is no longer in production and the whole idea fizzled out due to only being able to burn a chip once.
