Default The semi-official 'Off season Honda Challenge'

OK,

I am personally sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am going to get in shape and be fit for next season. I was in a series this past season of 1hr. sprint races and my fitness (or lack of it) really showed. I am challenging everyone on this board to get physically and mentally sharp for next season.

I am going for 40lbs of weight loss, more endurance and flexibility. As soon as I finish my kids hallowe'en candy I am going to weigh myself.

throwin' the flab down!

Good for you Victor!! I will personally aim for 10 lbs of weight loss. I am currently 200 at 6 feet. So i can certainly stand to lose it. Good health is also the key to mental strength on the track especially for those enduro type races.

I'm doomed.
I work 12 hour days, often 6 days per week. My diet consists mostly of fast food, frozen/canned crap and stuff from the vending machine.
I gave up on losing weight years ago and now realistcally just set a goal of not gaining any. I actually do OK in that category.

Illusion,

I will send you 20 lbs of mine. Wow, that was easy, only 20 more to go

This is of course a great idea. I want eventually to be successful and buffed, so that I look the part inside that Sparco suit I'll get someday.

But why stop there. I'm going to actually be smarter, and make sounder decisions. Not so smart mind you that I just stop racing all together though. No, that is more intelligence than my limited mentality can conceive of. And I'm pretty sure people that smart just don't have as much fun as we do.

Scott, who thinks that 2003 will be harder than 2002......if I wasn't hopelessly addicted I'd just quit....

Join the crowd baby. I killed my power steering pulley by introducing it to a frame rail. I decided to just ditch it altogether.

So, I've been working out like 2 times a week the past month, and last night, I tried my car at low (2nd gear) speeds around a parking lot. Holy crap. I know it will be easier at high speed and when the tires are slipping a little, but I need to get my *** into good shape, pronto.

Hopefully I'll make the gym like 3-4 times a week.

I'm gonna try and kill off another 10 pounds this winter. I somehow managed to drop 10 from 200 at the beginning of this summer, so it should be possible. Maybe a little harder since I'm not mountain biking anymore. I think realistically 20 pounds a year is pretty good if the sacrifices aren't too high...

Great timing Victor and a great idea. A few of us were just talking just the other day about how 'in-shape' the pro guys are. I'm not necessarily heavy, but I could certainly use your challenge to get back into shape.

slightly OT...but when i finish an autoX run I am noticeably out of breath and struggling for some O2, probably not as bad as you all after a race....but I've decided to start doin' cardio again....I say again b/c I had a very brief stint as a body-builder.....but stopped b/c I wasn't willing to shave my body hair and take all those supplements and ****....now I'm just lazy

If I lost 40 lbs I think I would officially be qualified as anti-matter.....

I just haven't been motivated in the last couple years. I'm suffering a similar problem to Scott's - long hours, 6 days / week usually. When I get home I've often got additional work to do. Otherwise, I spend my spare time fixing my Mom's broken-into car or crashing my truck into things.

Plus, if I lose the weight, I'll have to spend money on a different seat for the race car.

I know...excuses, excuses...it's a fine idea Victor.

I have a natural pattern of losing weight in the winter and slowly gaining it back over the spring and summer. I'm up about 30 pounds right now. (220). I should be back in the 190 range by march/april.

Wow!

Great, when our super army of invincible honda drivers is complete their will be no stopping us!

C aka C, you might be out of breath because you are gripping your steering wheel to hard. I was always getting winded in sprint races and a racing coach (Ross Bentley) told me to relax my death grip and to concentrate on slow continual breathing. Of course if my and your cardio was better that task would be easier.

same thing would happen to me, until I realized I wasn't breathing for the 45 to 60 seconds of an autocross run...

Casey, who believes reminding yourself to breathe during a run is a good thing

If you lost more weight then H-C would definately have to impose a weight penalty by having you carry a cinder-block in the car.

mike, i think i'll be accompanying you to the gym this next semester. I could drop 40 lbs and be like bookler (although not nearly as short!)

5'8" isn't THAT short. It's a nice height actually, I can fit in just about any car ever made!

Had to bring this one back from the dead. How are we all doing?
I personally suck. I'm in the worst shape of my life, and the cool part is I leave for Maui in a few weeks.

I was wondering when someone was going to remember this. Currently, I'm down 10 lbs, but I'm still 20 over my minimum weight. (max 220 min 190)

I won't have to worry 'bout scaling light at the first race...

I'm also going to postpone that corner weighting for another couple of months.

Greg~who dispite the new Michelob Ultra Light, refuses to become lighter

Very weird!!!!

I posted this in November and never even got around to weighing myself! The other day I was out in the boonies for a photo shoot and I got inspired to get in shape and enjoy some of the incredible beauty here in the Pacific NorthWest that I completely take for granted. I bought some new runners , downloaded a learn to run program from the net and stocked up on healthy food. I had the first day today and the mental load I dropped from finally starting something was huge!

It is so funny that you dug up this post because I was thinking about it today.

Victor Penner

PS: have fun in Maui
