Hey everyone,

So I'm having a problem, I just replaced the ISB in my 98 civic cx and I can't seem to get the transmission snap ring back in place, I've tried the usual tapping it on the back of the trannyto try and seat the ring. That still hasn't worked, it's really close its about a 16th of an inch from the groove and I'm just looking for other ideas or tricks on how to seat the ring.

If the casing is seated fully, and the snap ring isn't seating, then you may have left out a shim, or just didn't shim the transmission correctly.

 

Assuming you put all the parts in and you got the snap ring stretched over the shaft completely just no quite in place, you can turn the transmission over and tap it on the ground and gravity will shove the shaft down so the snap ring snaps into the groove. It's how I did mine. One nice bump on the kitchen floor and the ring snapped into the groove.

Mind you, I fought to get the snap ring open enough to go into the shaft first.

 

Yeah I did make sure to get the snap ring over the bearing and I have tried tapping it on the floor a few times with no change. I'll give it another go tomorrow and I don't think it would be the shims, I just removed the gears and replaced them the way they were before I didn't rebuild the tranny, thanks for the replies.

 

I just got it in, banging it harder on the floor worked and other thing I did was change gears while doing that and it finally made it into the groove.

Yeah for sure, it would be brutal with anything much heavier
