Hood Pins......... Whats the point?
Someone please tell me why people have hood pins. I am not saying that they are useless or anything I just dont know what their function is other than cosmetic. I know that they hold down the hood but why do you need them if you have the stock hood latch?
Thanks

you do not need them for a regular OEM hood.
however, for fiberglass and carbon fiber, the hoods are lighter than OEM and sometimes more flimsy. at high speeds they can flip up and hit your windshield and top of your roof.
hence hood pins to prevent that.

I saw this sucka sticking some hood pins on his Civic the other day. After he was done I think they were the only "mods" done to his car.

actually, ive held up a lot of CF hoods that dont weigh any less than an OEM hood.. so i would think the hood pins would only be necessary on a functional CF hood. (one that actually shaves off weight)

What kind of carbon fiber hood were you holding. All the carbon fiber hoods i have come in contact with weighed about half the weight of the oem hood.
THe hood you were holding was surely not a carbon fiber hood if it weighed the almost the same as the Oem. No way!!

has anyone lifted a hood of a new WRX? they are made of a composite alloy or something like that. it weighs the same as the CF hood we put on my friends GSR. and we put hoods pins on his hood because it would start to shake at high speeds.

hoodpins also reduce the rattling of the hood on the freeway...it helped me...although i dont like the look of hoodpins
and it helps to adjust the cf hood, since alot of cheaper one doesnt fits right.
but i hated silver, ricer colored hoodpins for some odd reason. black one make me horny..jk
