I converted my power integra steering rack to manual by looping the fluid and filling the rack with fluid. it works good for most driving, but especially on the high way i can feel a major dead spot in the middle, doing about 80mph i can turn the wheel about and inch in either direction and the car stays straight, it is very scary to say the least

i am thinking of putting in a full manual rack, but would like the shorter ratio of the power, is there any way of swaping gears between the two or is there no hope? are there any other options?

btw does anyone have a manual rack laying around they would like to sell?

also, this is in a 93 dx hatch now

The ghetto rigged loop is a waste of time and money. You can pick up a Manual rack for about $60 from car-part.com and sell your power assist one for more than that.

 

well yea i have figured that out now, i do like the short ratio though, any solutions to make a civic manual rack shorter? I cant really sell the power rack now, its kinda been canibalized, it feels good around town, but on the highway it just gets scarry

 

IMO you should change out the rack and the crossmember since the bolt holes and the thickness of the racks are different. I did this swap on my 93 si and it wasn't that hard.

If you are doing this swap do it right with the right parts!!!!

 

is the cross bember different because of the manual rack/power rack, or does it hav e to do with the car?

Right now i have an integra power rack installed on a civic dx subframe with no problems. come to think of it what are you refering to when you say the crossmember? do you mean the subframe that the rack bolts to? or something else?

btw thanks madtownhonda for the link, i found a yard 10mins from my house that has the rack for $80 including tax, i think thats a good deal

Work out. Build up some more forearms muscles and deal with non-power struggles.

Or get a manual rack. You'll love it.

 

i am refering to the subframe as you call it. the bolt holes are diff and so is the size of the rack if you have the power one from a teggie then you will need the non power rack and " subframe" this is the only way to do it right, you can use a non power rack with the power "subframe" but the pass side bolts wont line up correctly. if yoiu need any pics let me know.

 

no i know what you are saying now, we are talking about the same thing, i've just always refered to it as a sub frame, i have already emailed the junk yard to see how much it will be for that too, thanks

 

I have a manual rack from a CX swap I did that I would like to get rid of. $30 plus shipping and it's yours, Don't know about swapping the gears but it could be possible.


P.S. the sub frame isn't an issue, its just a matter of the size of the bushing and the clamp that holds it on. (I have that too)
