Default WHEN TO SHIFT MY 5SPD IN MY HIGH MILEAGE ENGINE

Hi I have a 94 accord DX with near 260k and its been pretty well maintained. I was wondering at what rpms I should be shifting at to not beat on my engine and still be ok?

Depends on load and speed. Drive the car and find where it feels smooth and linear to drive, bucking/bogging and revving are best to be avoided.

Doesn't the manual give recommendations?

That's what I normally do on a lower mileage vehicle

Yea it does. I've driven stick all my life 9+ years now of driving owning 4 different cars and 2 motorcycles but they've always been low mile vehicle's. Bikes were both new and the cars had between 54k-107 when I bought them so I wasn't so worried as much to the load the engine had but having 260k on a car especially one that's 21yrs old I wanted to see if its better to shift lower around 1800-2000 rpms or is it ok to shift around the recommend 3k that the manual says.

My normal shifting is below 3k RPM, between 2,200 and 2,900 RPM. For spirited driving, merging on to interstate, I got to 3,500 RPM. For really short merging interstate lanes, I do up to 4,000 RPM sometimes. I hardly, if ever, go above 4,200 RPM. I have 290k miles now on my 94 Accord. I tow jetskis, motorcycle and utility trailers very regularly. When towing, I try to shift at higher RPMs, and when I remember, I try to not go in 5th gear.
