I recently bought a 00 civic for the wife and my trying to get the wheels off so i can replace them but i cant seen to figure out what lock nut this is , i thought they were Mcgard tuners and i ordered a set but i was wrong , the key doesnt work.

 

It is a McGard wheel lock.

I have them on 2 of my cars. They have multiple 'key' codes.
One key won't necessarily fit a different McGard.
You can buy a replacement key, if you have the code. I don't know if the code is stamped on the locks, buy I doubt it.
They sell the lock sets at Pep Boys.

It would be easy to remove them, destroying them in the process.
Just weld a lugnut onto it.

 

Just use a wheel lock extractor/removal tool. Wheel locks don't stop thieves, but they sure inconvenience the mechanic trying to do a tire rotation wondering where exactly the wheel lock is.

 

When we bought the car it didnt have a key/code for the locks i might have to go with plan b them , weld a nut to it

 

Call your dealer as they may have a master set and maybe will be nice enough to remove them for you.

 

You don't need to weld nuts to them, just get an extractor as I mentioned previously. You can get them at Napa.

 

Or do what I did when I couldn't find my lock. Get a lug nut that's JUST big enough to fit on it with a hammer...and hammer it on. Spin it off. Easy.

 

I'm guessing you mean socket.

If so, by the looks of the picture there isn't much room to allow a socket in over the lock.

Haven't seen the lock extractors so not sure if it's going to have the same issue.

Weld, or drill and bolt extractor would work without a doubt. I'm assuming the extractor can also fit in tight spaces like that.

Just be glad you don't have these wheel locks in that tiny space:



The spinning sleeve makes it even more challenging in tight spaces.
