Default cel code 67

cel code 67
94+ Integra: Catalyst system Efficiency Below Threshold malfunctioning or defective catalyst system

I got this cel code last night and I am hoping I don't need a new cat.
I have a custom obx stainless 2.5 in. cat.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you have to do?
Any info or help please
Thanx
Alex

If the CEL really bothers you, you need to get a more functional cat such as a Carsound.

Code 67 does not hinder performance at all.

I got a code 67 over a month ago. I reset the ECU, and the code has not come back on yet even after a full ~2.5 hour track day and an autox.

My shitty Random cat gives me CEL 67's all the time. I just reset the ECU, or the code goes away after a while. Hmm, I wonder if I would pass smog with the CEL on. That would be interesting to see if it passes eventhough the catalyst is operating below the "threshold."

uhmm.. code 67 doesn't equal a bad o2 sensor. it just means the readings between the primary and secondary o2 sensors wasn't different enough (and thus the cat is "not working".

I just removed the CEL bulb.

Where did you get and how much was the O2 sensor? I also get bad mileage when the light comes on. For some reason, it's off for now after being on for a few tanks of gas. What cat are you using? If your car is still under warranty, then take it to acura and see what they say.

One more thing...it can mean a bad O2 sensor. You won't know from the CEL alone. You have to check the error codes in the computer with a OBDII code reader as stated in the helms manual. I'm perplexed because this happened with my old random cat and it's happening with my new replacement random cat. Random just sucks. It's not consistent either. I might be fine for 5,000 miles and then get a string of CEL 67's. Bad gas maybe?

code 67 causes the car to run rich, hence the poor gas mileage

bad 02 sensors give different codes. Codes 41, 61, 63 and 65.

you have technical proof for this? I've had a code 67 for over a year and the car's A/F didn't change at all on a wideband nor has the gas mileage.

You are correct. Let me review my Helms manual about that error code thing.

Isn't there a post somewhere that says you can cover the secondary O2 sensor with like electrical tape and foil?

Tape would burn away. You can wrap the sensor in tin foil and then tie it with wire, however, you will have to replace the tin foil, etc occasionally.. not worth the effort to me considering a 67 has no effect.

code 67. poor catalyst blah blah. okay all you really need to do is clean the throttle body and replace plugs. i know it doesnt sound like it relates to the cat at all and no manuals say this either. it has nothing to do with the secondary 02. i have repaired a lot of these hondas with the same code and that was all i did. no customer come backs.

I recently shut off my SRS light and now the only light that's lighted on my cluster is the CEL. Oh well, doesn't bother me too much.

Please explain how changing the TB and plugs increases the difference between the readings of the primary O2 and the secondary O2.

haha I was about to ask the same thing.

edit: perhaps no customers come back because they've realized that he doesn't know wtf he's doing to fix the code 67.. hmm..

-Dave, who has never heard of this "fix" so can't really say it wont work but there is no logic to say it will.

I have the same code and when I reset my ecu it comes back on after a couple of days. My gas mileage does seem to be shitty also. I have a Carsound cat and I cant seem to make the cel 67 go away. So code 67 means the car is running rich?

code 67 means the cat is not working properly. it wont richen the map. bad primary o2 would though.

So would replacing the bad primary o2 stop the cel from coming back on and make prevent car not run rich ? How can you tell if your car is running rich or lean?

code 67 isn't a bad primary o2. you sure you're only getting one code?

-Dave, who has had a 67 for over a year and gets 27-28mpg in the city with a mix of "low" rpm driving and redlining..
