Default 96 ballade - suspension drop and engine swap questions

Hi All

I just purchased a 96'honda ballade 150 speedline, my first Honda ever owned. I need help according to rumour I cant drop the suspension on this car as the ball joints give lots of problem and the suspension can handle the drop is this true , also if I can drop it do I need a camber kit.

Next question is this is a 1500 carb 16v any suggestion on modz for the motor without replacing it with a B seris as that will cost a lot

my research shows that the ballade is the same as USDM 96 civic, which if this correct you can lower it but just don't go crazy and slam it, like with any car.

check the suspension for FAQ and you will have a bunch of info to read

hope this helps

With one major difference (if they are considered the same).... The ballad appears to be carbereted while the USDM 96 is Fuel Injected.

Mods for carbereted Honda's might be more prevalent in the 3rd and 4th gen sections. I believe it's in the 4th gen the USDM was phasing out of Carberated Motors into Fuel Injection. Not totally sure the transition in the US Domestic Market though.

ok, i didn't really pay attention the engine set ups, just the body, suspension, etc...

I think you are correct about the carburetors, because I don't believe any 5th gens in the us had carbs

Thank you guyz , will look into the suspension more carefully I only want to go 40mm lower with 15'' 9J volk racing rims , so not crazy low.

still not sure how to tweek the motor as replacement of engine costs a lot , also changing the carb system mean installing a aftermarket management , there have to be something I can do to the carb set up , I was think of stage induction , branch & free flow , as well as changing the cams..... but something interested me on the old dodge rams , they had a ram charger for carb models , something like a super charge via the bonnet , not sure if that will work on a Honda and what the power difference would be but I am investigating

Well, I know on the old carb v8's they would run high risers on their carbs so the fuel would be cooler when entering the engine. Same idea as adding a spacer between the carb and intake.

Not sure if that would be manageable on the civic setup.

But basically it looks like just buying new performance weber carbs is what you need.

I'm sure they can help you identify your setup and what will work properly for you.

Google also returned this site with some ways to mod the stock carbs:

Thanks tomcat I read the modz page and it seems very very useful I am going to look at it sometime next week and from what I hear as well the carb use on these cars where from the old Honda Goldwing motor bikes so those mods tie up with the info received , definitely going to try some of these trick will let you'll know the outcome
