Was the D17A2 SOHC 1.7 litre engine factory installed in the 4 door standard transmission variant?

Not in North America!

Only a F23A 2.3L 4 cylinder or a 3.0L J30A V6 version rolled onto North American toads.

Where are you?

There were F18A, F20B, H22A models released in other markets. Never saw anything with a D series.

I'm located in Miramichi, NB. The wife bought the car 2nd hand in Sherbrook,PQ a number of years ago. I searched the web and found the 1.7 litre engine in civics, but not in the accord. She's under the impression that the engine is the original. The pic of the D17A2 is identical to what's in her car. Interesting.

Welcome aboard, tis a small world! I'm located just outside of Saint John NB.....

The F23A and D17 have very similar looking valve covers. The F23 is a SOHC 2.3L VTEC for the 98-02 Accords.

If you look down beside the exhaust manifold there is a block plate that will have the engine block code stamped on it.

Here is an example of were you would find the engine code stamp. This is my F22B2;

This image is looking down between the radiator and the engine block. The exhaust manifold is on the right and the upper rad hose is on the left.

Hope that helps.....

As I've just joined, I'm not permitted to send attachments. Here's the link to the pic of the identical engine in the wife's accord:

Are you sure it's an Accord? Could it be a Honda badged 97-01 Acura EL?

Or it could be a 6th gen Accord with a complete EL swap.

Post up some pictures of your car and the engine bay. You need to host the images on a website like Photobucket and link them here.

There were Euro Accords(CH/CG chassis) that came with the D17. Most likely due to tax reasons the engine was used rather than an F variant.
