honda accord vtec sport 1.8 2002 radio removal
hey guys n girls its dan here
i have a honda accord 1.8 vtec sport with a standard 1unit size radio in so not the large one most 2002 models seem to have..
my problem
.
i have removed the two screws at top of dash above the dials and steering wheel the 3rd one on the right under the switch.
fine no problems
remove dash no problem
remove the radio is the problem as it only seems to want to move out about 1/4 of an inch and then it seems tight from the leads from the heating unit and its not pulled out far enough to disconnect the leads either..
any help or advice would be great on this thanks

You may have to remove the center console or storage bin bucket before the shifter to gain access to more screws that are probably hidden from underneath.
On USDM/JDM Accords although our radios are in the center console, we still have to remove the arm rest behind the hand brake lever to pull the rest of the trim up, out, away from the dash to get access to some some hidden screws.
If Honda built your model in the same way, open your arm rest compartment, remove the cover plate at the bottom, remove two screws.
Pull your center cup holder/storage bin(next to hand brake lever) up, remove one screw towards shifter.
Pull center console arm rest up and over hand brake lever.
Remove two screws at base of shifter trim plate.
Place shifter into Neutral to allow more clearance.
Gently prise shifter trim plate up and around shifter lever and forward storage bin/clock.
Remove clock/storage bin/etc from center console that is forward of the shifter.
Use a torch and look up underneath where the radio is installed, you may find additional bolts, screws or brackets holding the radio in situ.
Or you may simply find the access spot to disconnect the radio wire connectors and radio aerial.

hey mike thanks for the help..
i followed your advise and removed center consol including all the trims and still no luck from what i can see its the vent control wire which is very tight when in original place so assuming this is the lead of problems...
i have given up removing the old unit now and have cut in to the center consol unit to allow the new headunit in. i am now looking for the correct fittings for a center console radio fitting if it exists...
