Hey guys,

Just bought an 02 Accord Coupe LX and the fuel gauge doesn't work, but the fuel light still does. Anyone have any suggestions? From reading on Google some are saying that I could be the fuel sending unit.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

I would think it's not the fuel level sending unit sure to the fact that the light still comes on when it's low. Or is the light on all the time?

Nope it only comes on when it's low. I don't really know to be honest I just bought it and that's what the previous owner told me so I'm just trying to see what people think.

The gauge and low fuel warning are two separate circuits. They share a ground but that's it.

Since the light is working the ground is most likely good.

check the no. 9 back up light fuse in the drivers side under dash fuse panel. If it is good:

Remove the spare tire and remove the access plate for the sending unit. remove the connector from the fuel pump five pin connector. place a jumper wire between pins 1 and 2. Place the ignition switch in pos II the fuel gauge should move towards full . If it does the gauge is good and so is the wiring between the sending unit and gauge. At that point it's time to check the sending unit.

Warning - do not peg the gauge or leave it pegged for very long - you can damage the gauge if you do this for a long period of time.
