this is about my friend's 89 dx hatch. ususally, when he starts up in the morning, he needs to keep the rpms around 3000, or else the engine will die. after a while though, it'll idle normally. any ideas?

also, his dash lights will dim during idle, then get bright when he's on the gas. anyone know what's going on there?

 

sounds like a bad alternator, but i could be wrong

 

how many rpms does it idle at?
