Fresh b18c gsr build. Need advise.
Just finished installing my gsr into my EF hatch. I installed Nippon racing Pistons (0.50" oversized). Forged rods cause I plan on boosting this year. I kept the head stock for now. Is it nessecary to get a tune? I don't have a timing gun to advance timing but idk what's really necessary after a build.
if you have the factory ecu for your engine, the cams and manifolds are oem to the ecu, the fuel system is still stock, and the compression ratio is about the same as stock I don't see why u cant run a stock ecu.
even so u need a timing gun on that engine make sure its sync'd. thats usually one of the last things I do on initial atartup before I shut her down and change the oil

Just seems to be running like ****, back firing in higher rpms, I do not have my O2 sensor hooked up because the plug came out of harness wires.. But I've ran my other honda with out a O2 sensor and it didn't act like this. I do know it needs igniting timing.
Without the O2 hooked up the ecu will just run open loop and you will run very rich. Get the timing set and hook up the O2 and you should be able to safely run a stock ecu, but it won't be running at peak efficiency. If you do decide to get it tuned, you will be able to turn the O2 sensor off completely and eliminate the CeL caused by not having it. Regardless of that though, I will still say that eventually you should go with aftermarket tuning. Even if you just get a chipped ecu with a Phearable basemap for your setup it will be a lot better performing than running off any stock ecu.
Good luck with working on the EF. I never liked finding parts or working on that car. It was simple but I'd rather stick to something a little later!
