Default 1997 honda civic coupe EX (EJ8) alarm issues

First honda, my sister owned it before me, when she first bought the car alarm worked fine even with an aftermarket radio, it stopped working right before i bought off of her. Remote lights up and all but no locks or sounds what so ever. Door locks work fine, interior light does not turn on when opening doors but it still does work, sister's boyfriend replaced both door switches before it was sold but it did not do anything. I checked fuses and they are all good. Just before she sold the car to me people tried to break in so she had a kill switch installed, whould this affect the alarm at all? any and all help will be appreciated, Thanks!

Aftermarket alarm or factory? I don't think there were options for one back then.

There were optional alarm units rarely made that are located on top of the factory radio.

If you do not have a factory head unit in your car you will not be able to use a Honda key fob

Are sure an alarm system is installed rather than just the typical keyless lock system?

Check whether the stock radio is tucked behind the aftermarket one. If so, post clear pictures of the stock radio showing the rear connectors as well as the top of the radio where the alarm system would be located.

Its an after market radio, im assuming it was factory alarm system since it was an oem honda transmitter that she was using, and yes it did work with the after market radio and yes its an alarm not just power locks, im at wprk right now so no pics are available, i havent even tried taking her apart yet because im trying to gain some insight first, btw this fprum is great! Ive posted this question on two other honda forums last week with no response yet and i post it here today and boom! Thanks.for the quick replies fellas

Battery probably died in the remote so you might have to reprogram it.

If it is a 96-98 with an aftermarket head unit then it has the factory radio tucked behind the dash board to allow you to use the honda key fob.

As mentioned you may need to reprogram the key to the factory radio

Factory radio? Are you referring to the alarm brain?

Yes, it must be behind the aftermarket radio for the stock keyless remote to work.

Ok cool, I do recall a green plug sitting in that area unused in my civic.
