Default question about fuel light

How far can I expect to travel when the light first comes on? The car is a 94 accord. Thanks.

Try not to drive too often with the gas light on. Dirt typically settles in the bottom of your gas tank, and so driving with the gas too low causes the car to pull the dirtier gas from the bottom of the tank, and can cause lots of other problems.

I wouldnt drive over 30 miles with the gas light, but I have only seen my gas light once with owning my 94 Accord since 2002.

Yes most definitely change your fuel filter often if your a constant empty tank runner. Even then it will be bad for the internals of your fuel pump because it actually uses the liquid fuel in the tank to cool and lubricate itself and when you run it dry the pumps internal motor temp will undoubtedly increase and cause a shortened service life. As for mileage, it really depends on how healthy the car is and how it's tuned. In general, the light will pop on when your under apprx 2 gallons of fuel. How much under 2 gal though is anyone's guess and how far you can go on that amount will depend on many factors.

I have never seen my light come on, but the most gas I have ever put in the tank is 14 gal. I have heard the tank will hold 17, so if the light comes on when there are 2 gal. left that would make sense. On the other hand, the light may not work.

I have been tracking my Fuel usage since I have owned my car, however, since 2012, I have been using Gas Cubby app. The average fill up for me is around 12 gallons, sometimes 13 gallons. I have a few times with 14 gallons, and the absolute most gas I have ever put in is 14.75 gallons. I dont think I had the gas light on at that time.

I don't even let my 99 accord get under half a tank. Mostly cause there's no fuel filter in hondas from the couple years around then and the injector screens get dirty and clogged and cause misfires.
