power steering contaminated need flush chem
Long story short there is engine oil leak dye in the power steering fluid. Is there a chemical that can be used to flush this out or do I just need to run a lot of Honda power steering fluid.
on a side note trust no one always do your own car work
will the dye hurt the system? how long will it take, anyone know?
Thanks for your time.

If you really wanted to get it out, you would just disconnect the return line that comes from the rack and use a funnel with a hose connected via tape or something dropped down into a drain pan
Start the car and turn it lock to lock a few times to pump it out. Turn it off.
Then refill the reservoir up with Honda ps fluid. Turn it back on and turn it lock to lock. Add to reservoir until it gets to and stays at the top line. Then just keep turning lock to lock to purge the air. It will be loud until that happens.

I thought Honda ps pumps went bad with wrong type fluid in them. As oil dye was put in I did not know if it would hurt it. I know engine oil is different from hydraulic fluid. I know "ac dye" is clear and green and may be safe to use in other things, but this oil dye was from tracer and is red/black I assumed it has some engine oil it it. will this not cause to much of a issue?
You can drain the system as best you can and use a hydraulic cleaner solvent to help break down any gunk, drain again and refill with Honda PS Fluid.
If it was just dye, I wouldn't bother with it. But, how do you know its just dye? Is it the correct PS fluid?
The "universal" type fluids don't seem to play nice with Honda racks and pumps and cause seals to go bad.
Unless you think there's serious build up of crud inside, I would do what holmesnmanny suggested above, disconnect the return line and just drain and refill. If you are really paranoid about contaminants, you can splice in a power steering filter into the return line.
