First off, yes I did search. I was having trouble finding an answer, so if this has been covered, please redirect me to the appropriate thread.

My cousin is selling his 95 4 door eg8 civic. The thing is immaculate so I'm planning on buying it and making it a project car. Just a mild build, still want it to be street driveable.

Well, the problem is its auto. What tranny could i swap in to the car and then build up later to handle more power?

Maybe suggest some good tranny/engine combos that work well with the eg8. Plan on eventually taking the 1.5L out and actually doing a build after i get it painted and do things like suspension, wheels, engine bay etc...

Any help or redirection would be appreciated!

 

Are you keeping it auto? If so don't bother with any engine enhancements.

 

Pick a 5 speed D series transmission, any 92-00 5 speed D series transmission. They're all easily swapped in. There's even a how-to in the FAQ sticky!

 

Buy a used tranny, rebuild with aftermarket performance synchros and new bearings. Make sure everything is within spec and properly shimmed.
