95 CDM Civic CX - Suspension/Brake works.
Hi all,
I've been doing some reading and research and am a little unclear on some things concerning brakes and brake swaps etc.
First looking at this post, it seems like being able to bolt up an integra caliper may be a nice upgrade due to the larger piston.
Then seeing this post got me to wondering about rotor sizes.
I'm guessing being that I have a CX I will need to get either an integra knuckle or a 92-95 EX/SI knuckle to handle the integra non Type R caliper.
What rotor size would that require? Is it still a 9.5" rotor like the CX/DX non ABS of the 5th gen?
If it's bigger, will it still fit 13" rims?
My mother in law is willing to pay for a couple of parts from the salvage yard for my birthday so I am thinking about the knuckles and brakes. My desires is to stick with the stock 13 inch wheel though.
The other aspect is, when I had my tire off the other night I looked at the front LCA and my car doesn't have a front sway bar. I didn't see any provisions for it in the LCA either. Yet when I look on parts sites including the Canadian OEM site, it shows the sway bar as part of the parts of the car. I did run the VIN and it checks out as a CDM 95 CX Hatchback so not too sure about why no front sway bar.
Which brings me to the other part. Is the non ITR front sway bar the same size as what should be on my car or should I look to get a Coupe/Hatchback CX/DX front sway bar and LCA's?
I'm not really sure what parts to go for when I'm at the salvage yard that doesn't require additional reinforcement.
I've read through a bunch of things over the past year or so, however I don't remember all the little details nor did I save links for easy look up and my time is short as I have to give my mother in law a general quote tomorrow of the parts I'm gonna go grab maybe this weekend.
I know some of you are some serious experts on what goes with what without issue and would like some information on what combos have drawbacks and what doesn't and also what will allow me to keep to my goal of stock (13 inch) rims.
T/L-D/R:
1)What front sway bar is compatible without modification/reinforcement to my 95 CX Hatchback?
2)What Knuckle/Rotor/Caliper combo for the front do I need to maximize brakes while still maintaining 13 inch wheels?

You already have the largest brakes that will still clear 13" wheels.
You need '92 - '95 Civic EX/EX-V/Si LCAs or ones from a '94 - '01 Integra for the front swap bar.

I suspected that. Thanks. So I am guessing 14" inch wheels are required if one is switching to the Integra front calipers.
Okay, there has been some confusion on the bar sizes if I recall. I'm guessing I misunderstood and it's only the Type R with the larger front sway bar. Also didn't realize it was only the EX on up in the 92-95 that had a front sway bar. The parts sites don't help with that confusion any.
That narrows the direction down and now I know exactly what cars to pull parts from. Thanks again 94EG8.

I can get the integra/civic EX LCA's and sway bar for under 100 bucks and then the car is using stock parts.

They should. You can only select the parts that came on whatever trim level you're looking up. You'll normally see everything in the diagram, but if you look at the part numbers the reference number for equipment not on the car you're looking up wont be there.
If you're going to put a sway bar on I think you should put both front and rear on. The front sway bar will give you less body roll, but it will understeer worse than it does now. A rear sway bar will reduce understeer.
I ran just front sway bars on my '94 sedan and my '93 Si hatch. Currently driving a '95 CX with both front and rear sway bars and it makes a huge difference.

I already have the rear LCA's installed and the sway bar sitting in my closet. I am guessing I will need to go to a muffler shop and have them do a custom 2.5 piping from axle back with a baffled muffler so the input is at the top and the exit is in the normal position under the bumper.
I can always get the front knuckles and LCA's so I can refresh the wheel bearings and lower ball joints and just not install the sway bar itself until I'm ready to do both. Then it's all prepped and the ride isn't affected.

So understeer was a standard issue with the 92-95 Si Hatchbacks?
The reason I ask, is it looks like if I add the front sway without adding the rear, I'll have a stock 5th gen Si hatchback suspension setup.

Yes. Well, they all have understeer issues, no sway bars, front sway bar or both sway bars. But it's more pronounced running just a front.
You will yeah. I've run that setup on two cars, one of which was a real '93 Si hatchback. It will stiffen the car up, it'll just have more of a tendency to want to keep going straight.

I pulled the front A arms and sway bar from a 92 Civic Si Hatch on Friday, and I noticed the back of the Hatch doesn't come with a sway bar natively.
So understeer was a standard issue with the 92-95 Si Hatchbacks?
