Default Brake Proportion Valve

Hello guys,

So here is the deal. I was in the process of getting another vehicle (took 7 months but found her finally). In the meantime I realized one of the rear brake lines was rusting out underneath the rear passenger seats. So, my thought, which is not the safest, but safer then no brakes currently. I need to plug the rear brake lines. Does anyone know what thread size the proportion valve outlets are? Otherwise, what do people think of cutting the lines and plugging with JB weld. This is not a permanent solution I know. I just am done with the car and have it for sale. I am letting people know the situation as they ask me about the car. I am selling it for $1000, so I do not want to put the time and energy into repairing the lines.

Thanks

JB weld will not work. It will not hold against the hydraulic pressure.

Why not fix the brake line that is rusted?

You missed the self-admission of being lazy and cheap.

Sell the car as is.

Rigging it then selling it, if it fails and they wreck your in for a law suit.

I see no reason for anyone here to post suggestions to this thread as it is unsafe modify a brake system by removing part of it

My two cents

If you follow your lame-*** plan; someone would own your everything after the lawsuit, and/or watch your legal issues as you are charged with fraud or 3rd degree homicide.

I am not trying to be lazy or cheap. I have worked on the car plenty the past 2 years and there is a point where it is not worth my time to work on the vehicle when it not a car I drive anymore. I have it for sale for 1000, the pre bent brake lines alone are over $250 (at least what I have found)and I have another car. The car currently has no brakes, so, I was only asking and I was really hoping there was an answer to the thread size so I could at least have front brakes. No one is buying the vehicle without prior knowledge of what the car is. I am suggesting a tow to people, but I was hoping there was someone here with knowledge of the thread so I could at least safely give people a ride along with weather permitting.

if you don't have front brakes because of a rear line leak, either your master cylinder or prop valve are leaking internally. Both are designed to isolate a failed system and leave the other working to bring the car to a stop.

In a properly working brake system the front and rear hydraulics are isolated.

When a brake system fails, you park the car until it is repaired.

I think the bottom line here is you want to rig the car so you can prove the engine and trans work and you can ask more for the car or at least get people to show up to look at it.

.
Not exactly.
The right front and left rear are in one hydraulic system.
The left front and right rear in another.

Exactly. If both rear brake lines are rotted you wont have anything.

You can't really get plugs for the prop valve, generally what people will do is cut the lines with the cutters on a pair of vice grips and fold the line over and crimp it.

I'm warning you though, you're opening yourself up to a lot of potential liability doing this. You're far better off to sell the car as it is with no brakes at all. Or get some brake line and fittings, cut out the rusted sections and splice in new pieces of brake line available for next to nothing at any auto parts store.

Thanks for the response 94EG8. I am selling the car as is, but, to get back to what I was trying to do was drive the car safely to show people in fact the transmission and engine do work. I understand the liability and so forth, I am not a 16 year old kid selling a car for the first time. belairbrian obviously you do not know how the Honda lines are hooked up so good job to you sir and you also must not understand the fact that I am not "sneaking" this issue by people as the first thing I tell everyone is it has NO BRAKES. Maybe you should show interest in the car and I can give you an example and so forth. Bottom line is the car is getting sold to someone that wants to fix it or going to the scrap yard in a month, the money the car is worth is peanuts.

Line size is M10x1.0. Plug size is M10x1.0. Yes? Should be. I think. Wait. Let me reconsider. Yeah, Right. Right...Yeah..ok.

Oh there are no M10x1.0 plugs for sale. What shall we do?

I think the racing link may give you a clue that anybody that plugs up something on a braking system should only be on a track. I certainly think you would be better off with even the s**iest flare press and a hacksaw. Or even a 2in dowel and 10 feet of 3/16 preflared line. just bend the thing. Take off the gas-tank or route around it. May be the hacksaw is better. Hmm. Ah F* It's winter anyway. Who needs brakes, you ain't stopping until you hit the curb buried in snow anyway.
