Whats a good snow tire?
Snow is here in Colorado. How do you pick a good snow tire and what do you look for? I have the stock 195/60/15's. And recommendations? Also, is 32psi what my tires should be inflated to? Thats what the manual says, but it still looks kinda flat...

Are you looking for a real snow tire (that is only used for winter and not the other 3 seasons) or a good all-season tire with good snow performance? We don't get too much snow here in MD so I went for the latter. Dunlop SP Sport 5000 in a 205/55-15 size. It fits on the stock 15x5.5 wheel and has great snow grip.
32 psi sounds right. I put in around 36 psi. You can go up to tire's max pressure limit marked on the tire. This is the max COLD pressure limit and never go above it, for a hot tire can go up 10 psi or more.

Nokiian Hakappellitta (sp?) snow tires are some of the best you can buy. They aren't cheap though. I have a set of four for my Civic Si. It goes through snow like a tractor. The sidewalls are a little soft, as I suppose most snow tires are. BTW, I recommend a set of four snow tires, not just two. Find some extra wheels to mount them on so you don't have to constantly rip off the summer tires and mount the snows.
Nokians are nice probably the best, but they are hard to get. I would go to tirerack and do some research. There are many choices depending on what you want. I'll try to give some reccomendations.
Ultimate snow and ice traction- Some 185 65 15 studded snow tires
Very good snow/ice,-Nokian, Blizzack Ws-50, Dunlop DS-1
Good snow, ice, and dry performance-Michelin pilot artic alpin and Pirelli winter 210 snowsport
I personally have had studded snows and Blizzacks, they kick some *** but suck on the highway. Since I drive 40 miles a day mostly highway I'm going with either some H rated Pirellis or Michelin snow tires.

i currently use Dunlop Wintersport M2 195/65/15 for winter. They are one of the best handling winter tires available.
I got them because I know some Porsche owners that swear by them.
They are excellent tires. I was very suprised by the dry road performance. Also great on the highway. Never been stuck in the snow with these tires.
This winter, I plan on getting into some 'wintercross' events. It will be tons of fun.
Nokian makes the best snow tire in the world, but they are very expensive and are not good when there is no snow.

Thanks for replying. Im running on the stock yokohama s206 tires (i think..hehe). but im basically looking for good all year tires. Im kind of stuck in a bind here because I use these wheels to race since the only other wheels i have are my 18" kumhos. damn things are so heavy its like turning a third wheel.
