b16 things and stuff
I have a b16a and want to get as much out of the sstock motor as possible until i can save up to build and turbo it. i was wondering what cams from a FACTORY )no aftermarket yet) b series would give me the best gains.
well if your plan is to go Turbo there are still plenty of parts that your car can benefit from using that will also translate to working well with turbo. The ammount of money you will spend on a set of ITR cams will be close enough to what you would spend on a mild set of stage 1 or 2 cams, also You can have your car benefit doing an upgraded set of springs, retainers, valve seals which can all be done at the same time and give you a nice power bump. Also upgrading your Intake manifold will help. That's about all you could install fairly easily without getting too deep into the engine and should keep you busy for a little while. have you done anything with your exhaust yet? and any timeline on how long until you go turbo?

thank you. i plan on actually building my car unlike 80% of the honda guys around me who slap a turbo kit on it and call it a day. going for 300whp but also want reliability. i know thats a hard one but thats my goal. it will be a daily until i can save up to get a beater.

B16's are trying to make a comeback lately. I've seen more B16 questions and "build threads" in the past 3 months then in the previous 3 years.
OP 300whp on a stock B16 is easy to do and is reliable if it's tuned and maintained properly. IMO I would never drop coin on a built motor just to attain what a stock motor can do. 450whp B16's are fun. Been in a couple. Set some higher goals for yourself
Your car, your build, just my .02

I would have to say x2 on the intake manifold and building the head in prep for cams and added power. Those are things you can still enjoy once you go boost. Also engine management. A Hondata or equivalent program can be tuned now to maximize NA power and retuned later when your boosted. Back to the valveteain mods, I think that would be more worthwhile than any set of "stock" cams as you will see power gains even with your current B16 cams and will also allow your aftermarket cams to be more of a drop in affair later down the road. From a reliability standpoint however I must respectfully disagree with not building an engine to do what a stock one potentially could. Whatever a stock build can do, a mildly built one could do also, but at a lower and safer boost level. I.e. If it takes 15psi to get your power goal stock, it will prolly make the same power at 10-12psi built and will be making that power more reliably in the general scheme of things. But as has been said, B16s are indeed a lot more plentiful in builds these days and with boost can lead to some relatively inexpensive power and fun. Enjoy it and welcome to the wonderful world of Honda lol
