HI

I'm in Ontario Canada and we have just been hit with intense cold, im talking probably -20ish... I park outside. I go out last night and my car feels like its dragging the rear end around. I jack it up and the rear driver side feels fine, rear wheel spins freely without the ebrake engaged. The rear passenger wont even spin freely. Anyone know what the issue is? Can it be just the cold? Why would one side be fine and the other not? I tried hammering the drum to get i loose but no cigar. I will try again, hopefully parking in the garage overnight will loosen it up.

Could it be just the ebrake cable? or is it something more serious? Car is a 98 civic 5 speed. also, all drums and rotors were replaced last year

thanks...that guy was experiencing the exact thing as me. I tried hitting the drum and no luck tonight. I will let it warm up in the garage overnight and try tomorrow. The wheel wont spin either, so I think something is seized. Would adjusting the e brake under the armrest inside the car help in this case?

 

Remove the wheel and heat drum with a heat gun. Then whack it again. Once loose, disassemble and inspect.

 

so after leaving the car in the garage overnight, the wheel turns freely in reverse but drags when going forward. It seems as if its de-thawing. I will try to take a pic after taking the drum off tonight.

 

smash the **** out of the drum with a big hammer trust me had that same issue guessing you live north of Toronto OP?. never hurts to take the drum cover off and spray in inside/see if anything is broken etc.

came off no problem with some penetrating stuff and that method and some hammering...seems like the handbrake on that side doesnt like the cold weather...is it possible to disconnect that side (passenger rear) just so i dont pull it up and it gets stuck again?
