d16y8 vtec auto, my car wont rev past 5200 most of the time it will sometimes but not often, throws code p1259 vtec malf and a code for the knock sensor please help!

 

Oil level would be first check

 

im a tech at a ford dealer all the basics have been coverd

 

What do you consider basic? I have to assume things i do not know.

If you have checked the basics post what you checked. I am not a mind reader nor anyone else. Anything you have checked should be in your first post

Have you cleaned the vtec solenoid screen?

Wires all good?

 

i have cleaned screen, what i believe to be the pressure switch(what the vtec noid is mounted to) throttle body, cleared codes and test drove multiple time throws same codes. dizzy is good plugs and wires are too, im a lost chevy guy that works a ford with a screwed honda lol

 

would the knock sensor have anything to do with this?

 

after you answered my first posts i would say it's very possible.

Could be the knock sensor. Maybe the plug is loose. No codes?

 

The knock sensor code is almost surely causing the low rev issue. Fix this code first. Here's the diagram matching your car:

 

alright, thanks for the help im going to check the connections and if theyre good im going to replace the knock, if that doesnt fix it ill hit you up again

it threw p1259 and knock sensor code dont remember what # the code was, block and head codes? ive just started school and not super savvy. with electronics

so ive done more research and my conclusion is the knock sensor, where is it located? anybody have pictures?

 

On block, above oil filter.

yes

 

my problem isnt always a problem, sometimes if its doing it ill put it in neutral torn it off and start it again and i can go over 5k/ hit vtec for a min then it does it again

 

Fix the KS code and then go from there.

 

Sounds like a distributor issue, but you should make sure to remediate those cel codes.
