LEDs in cluster issue!!!
First off I have a 92 civic hatch dx. I followed the diy on here. Bought the same bulbs from the same site he used. Did the cluster and put it in to see if the bulbs were in the correct position. He mentioned sometimes they have to be flipped 180 degrees. Plugged it in and was taking note of what wasn't on. In a total of maybe 1 min I smelt burning plastic and saw a tiny bit of smoke. Unplugged the cluster immediately. Pulled the whole dash harness from the fuse box and inspected it. Everything was good. Just changed my heated core last week so I know the ground behind the steering column was hooked up. Just for good reason grabbed the same harness out of my 94 cx coupe parts car and threw it in. Hooked up the cluster and no lights. This is what I found. Question is why this happened. If this matters at this point when this occurred only the cluster was hooked up. Everything else on the harness was unplugged. Any advice would b greatly appreciated! On to the pics.

This is the only thing I'm unsure of being the reason or not. The circular part of this bulb is now a littler bigger than when the diy was posted for whatever reason. The led base maybe went 1/8 into the socket. This is the bulb where u had to reuse the stock socket. Upper left hand bulb.

I'm HOPEFULLY going to come across another cluster at the junkyard today since this one is fried. But I need this figured out before I can continue this install! Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

Well I honestly have no knowleadge of explaining how or why this happened. After no replies of advice I went a more simple approach of researching. I just googled dash lights not working and came up with this thread. https://honda-tech.com/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/92-civic-dash-lights-not-working-2985906/
Followed the trouble shooting of that thread. Dimmer switch burnt up as well hints the smell I couldn't track down. It was working just fine before this issue. Replaced the dimmer switch and got a cluster from a junkyard from an automatic eg cause that's all they had and swapped the green paper/circuit board on the back of the cluster onto my cluster and all was gravy. LEDs back in and working fine. For the smaller socket that my led wasn't fitting into I was able to use to socket that came with the led and just trimmed the the plastic that locks it in as described on the diy thread with a little force and fit it in. Whether that was the problem or not I don't know. But it's all working just fine now for anyone that runs into this problem.
