Best/affordable CRV 2000 code reader
Hi guys
After a few failed tries to fix/improve my old CRV 2000, I decided that if you want something done right, better do it yourself. So I'm trying to find/buy a code reader to diagnose my car and, if needed, buy and replace the parts myself.
Can someone recommend a cheap (but coog enough) code reader I can buy? Preferably from aliexpress, because the amazon will charge high import taxes and delivery to Thailand; anyway, just need a name, something that someone used already and works for sure. I'll search it after that on the net.
(I live in Thailand and it is very hard to find a good skilled guy around here)
My latest failed experience with the Thai mechanic, me and the guy (was thinking to replace the fuel filter for fuel economy):
- The fuel filter is old, are you sure that you replaced it (me)?
- I replaced with another old one. (he, serene)
- What?! Why? How does that make sense to you? Do you change the oil with used oil, too? (me, frustrated)
- It is an import SH filter, very good.
- Yes, but... but... still... what?!? ... anyway, I'm losing myself so I pay and drive away fast. While driving, the left-front window stops working, the right-front light blinks and the air is not as cold as it should be - I must lower it to 20 degrees to feel cool.
So, you see, can't trust anyone around here.

Do a search on aliexpress for Honda VDM, this is about the best aftermaket tool at present.

Do you have an iPhone or android? Buy a cheap elm327(Bluetooth for Android phones and wifi for iPhones) off eBay and then download one of the apps from the store (Torque for android or Rev or Dash Command for iPhone). That's what I'm using and it's pretty awesome. You can also use these on computer software as well and use a laptop.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I bought the elm327 and was ready to use Torque, but it seems that there is no ODB plug on my car. I've asked my mechanic and the Honda guys and they both told me that.
I thought ODB was introduced in '90s. Is it possible that it arrived later in Thailand?! Mine is a 2000.
Oh well, at least it cost me only a few $.

If they confirm you have the old 5 PIN ODB connector, you can purchase an adaptor cable to ODB2 / EOBD 16 PIN diagnostic plug.

You can just look under the dash to see whether it has a 3-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) or a 5-pin DLC.
Your car will still have the 2-pin Service Check Connector that can be jumped with a wire or small paper clip.
