Coolant leak at connecting pipe at water pump base...
Guys, doing a motor swap on a 95 D15 B7 and had to swap connecting pipe. Found the closest size o ring from a rebuild kit , slightly lubed new ring and installed tube. Upon block fill up, have a leak at o ring seal at block behind water pump. Should I have greased o ring with o ring grease or installed dry. I did ensure everything was very clean.
Reexamined old o ring from original tube and it did appear to be a bit thicker. Do I install dry, greased with o ring grease, or lube with a drop or two of motor oil....what works the best.....thanks

Read this post in my build thread. And yes, you should use the proper OEM o ring, not just whatever you could find laying around.
Eh, or they just assume you'll know what you're looking at, or it wasn't included. My Cometic kit only included one water tube o ring
Ok, so I did get the right O ring...it was thicker than the one that leaked, applied a bit of O ring grease and that solved the leak. That was somewhat of a job since the motor was installed and complete. I would suggest to anyone removing/replacing that pipe do a simple fill up the block and check for leaks BEFORE installing the motor. If it does not leak at block fill up , it prolly will not leak under pressure at heat up time. Thanks
