Aluminum-safe stripper for the paint, Simple Green full strength, and a variety of brushes, (nylon and wire...Brass and stainless)
I have hit some of the deep exterior pockets where I couldn't reach with one of those HF sandblaster pistols, carefully containing the sand and washing well.
Deburred, and final burnishing with simple green and red 3m pads.
Even a little metal polish where applicable. Cuz I wanted it really nice, not painted silver

Sounds about right, but stay away from the harder metal (stainless) brushes, as tiny particles have a way of embedding themselves in the softer aluminum block.

Soda blasting would be a great option too, but you need to have a large compressor and an excellent moisture removal system to have any success with it.

I wish that leaving motors unpainted was an option for me, Florida lime water and salt air means that bare aluminum gets oxidized and crappy after only a year or two. I gave up on it years ago and just paint everything with Seymour AlumiBlast after a good deep cleaning. It's "close enough" and doesn't look blatantly painted, just a little too even to be natural aluminum.

Drano, water, vinegar, purple power. 20 minutes no scrubbing.

That may stain the aluminum though. Only really a problem if he doesn't want to repaint.

Yeah you do have a point there. I clean (etch) aluminum with drano and water. It makes the metal a very dull but clean look. Dilute the drano with water and spray bottle it or brush it on. Wait a few seconds or minutes and flush water over it. It may get black **** but that can be removed with a hose or a polymer wire brush.

You can literally eat off the surface of the metal this way and it is easy. Just takes some getting used to and the necessary safety precautions.

This would remove any brown staining from the stripper

Please post pictures on non painted block but cleaned only... Im having the same problem. Gunk are all over even if i clean it with some over the counter products. It made a difference by using a battery solution but it causes a white particle residue after.

Subscribing....
