Default 2001 roof drains

We finally got some rain in CA, which is cause for celebration; however, it caused water to pool on the floor (driver's side).

I snaked weed wacker string into the sun roof drain, and discovered it leads into the car instead of out the bottom. (I suspect the dealer who replaced my air bag in the recall did this when they pulled the dash.)

Can I fix it myself? If I can, how? A diagram would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, it's about time we got some rain. Expect some more this Thursday & Friday.

Locate the factory service manual. The answer you seek is on pages 20-60 through 20-70, or just search for moonroof.

Let's try this, as it doesn't appear that the link is working.

Thank you sonscar! I'll give that a shot.

(Then I'll post to ask how to get rid of the mold without taking out all the carpet! )

Best regards,
dynama

Good luck with the carpeting. If it ever gets wet again, use a shop vac to pull out as much water as possible and then run your heater on high along with the A/C as a dehumidifier. Once the mold spores exist, there are too many places for them to hide. I'd pull out the seats before cleaning, along with the molding holding the carpet down at the doors. If you don't remove the carpeting to clean both sides, along with the car floor, make sure you never let water in again, or the dormant spores will just multiply again. Here are some suggestions for cleaning the carpet:

Thank you very much sonscar! You are an excellent human.

I discovered that the drain tube had been cut--the only work I had done on the car was to have the airbag replaced in recall. So it is clear that the tube had been cut by the dealer! My neighbor was able to fit a connector to bridge the tube to the outlet.

Now I'm off to buy a wet vac! I'll try to do what you said with seats, carpet, and all.

Thanks again!

I'm glad you were able to locate the problem. I hope the wet carpet can be resolved as easily.

I doubt the dealer will accept responsibility for the problem, unless you can prove the cut was located close to the area where they were working. If that is the case, you may have a claim against them so they become responsible for eliminating the mold, even if it means replacing the carpet and padding.

Good luck.

I don't see any way I can prove they are responsible, so I probably won't even try, and at least save that aggravation.

I greatly appreciate your help and good wishes.

Happy New Year!
