GSR idle
Hello there. I'm currently having issues with my car idling and cold starts. In the morning it starts and the RPM's go up to the 1,500 range and then falls back down and dies. I live in Phoenix and it was only 65 degrees when i tried to start it at 10 AM. Also when it at normal running temperature it idles at 500 RPM.
I've cleaned the IACV. I also tried adjusting it through the intake manifold and it is top off already. The only way to keep her alive in the morning is to hold the gas down until she can idle by herself. It's only going to get colder and I don't know how she will react to that. Any ideas? Please and thank you.

It just started yeterday. I've gotten up earlier before when it would be colder and had no issue. It starts fine when it warm. I can turn it off and on and with no issue. It does have the low idle though
750 +/- 50 RPM (700~800)
Assuming your engine runs fine when it reaches operating temp makes it seem like a FITV issue.
But I don't think your 98 has a FITV

Super common issue with FITV that is easy to repair!
Possibly try a known working IACV if you don't have a FITV.
It would likely throw a check engine light (your check engine light isn't lit up, is it?) if it were bad, but who knows... worth a try if you are pulling your hair out.

Mines does have a FITV... Any who I took it to a shop and the guys are really cool with me and just had to buy them a 12 pack of Heineken. Now my idle is at 1,000 RPM. Don't want bother them anymore cause I always call them for insight on my problems.

Adjust the idle properly according to the Helms manual. Adjust it under the right conditions with the ECU in diagnostic mode.
Idle that high is indicative of a vacuum leak.
Also make sure your ignition timing looks to be within reason. You wont be able to set it with it idling that high, but if your distributor is at the max of it's adjustment (as I commonly find on Hondas), then it indicates that it wasn't set properly.
