SRS 8-5 Help
Hi all
Anybody have any suggestions for a SRS light that comes on only on start up. Code is 8-5.
After resetting it, it disappears sometimes for a few days.
I installed a new battery a couple months ago before it started happening. So that end should be good. Does anyone have any suggesting's on testing for voltage drops or failures that could be causing light to come on?? OR
any other suggestions on how to fix it??
If I need a new SRS control unit anybody know if the sedans are same as accord wagon?
I have a 97 ex accord wagon. There seems to be various part numbers over the years.
I have looked and found answers here several times! great Forum
thanks in advance

If the voltage is low in the system or drops below desired limit when accessories are turned on, this will cause the SRS fault to trip.
Verify battery terminals are clean and tight.
Verify battery cables are clean, tight, and not corroded.
Verify Positive cable to under hood fuse box connections are clean and tight.
Verify Negative cable to transmission and main bonding cable to body are clean and tight.
Verify Ground jumper cable on engine mount is correctly attached(large cable on both sides of engine mount bracket, thinner wire to valve/cam cover), clean and tight.
Verify your battery is not leaking electrolyte.
Verify battery/battery tray are clean.
Verify under hood and under dash fuses are not blown.
Verify your battery voltage fully charged is 12.4Volts with the car off.
Verify your alternator is the correct 90A unit for EX models, others use 80A.
Verify the charging system is working.

I have check at lot on your list but not all of them so I will do.
I am going to put a load tester on battery also just to be sure. when I first checked battery it was 12.5 and 14.3 when charge mode. battery is 2 months old.
Also did timing belt 2 months ago. So some of the grounds were recently tightened.
But will double check everything.
Hopefully I will see something.
It is strange that the fault will only trip when starting car. The light has never came on when running.
If I have to replace SRS unit are they plug and play. Or is there something special that should be done to them and it isn't a diy job.
SPEAKING OF AIRBAGS don't 97 accords have Takata airbags????
If so wonder why not mentioned in recalls!!!
Thanks for the info

Even if the battery was fine, resistance from bad connections will create a larger than normal voltage drop.
Look online for a service manual that includes the SRS system.
Affected air bags are for the 01-02 V6 and 01-07 I4 cars.
And are only the airbags that are the problem, not the SRS system itself.
Hopefully just posting a conclusion to SRS light.
After checking everything. I could not find anything wrong. I realized I could also do the 6 second srs airbag self test without actually cranking engine over. I started just turning ignition switch to on position. Let the SRS unit do the self check then crank engine on. It would still fail sometimes so that kind of ruled out the heavy load theory for me.
In the end I found a used module and replaced it. So far so good. If I do not post back its still good.
Mike thanks greatly for your help. Much appreciated.
