I have a 2005 odyssey. Has been starting fine then starter will spin but wont turn engine over. since it was original starter, I replaced it with a remanufactured NAPA starter. Connected battery, turned key and same thing. Bendix is not engaging flywheel. On next attempt to start starter spun but didn't crank engine but when key was released, starter kept spinning. had to disconnect neg. battery cable to stop starter. when I touched ground cable to battery the starter spun again with the key out of the switch. Have been searching online with no luck. don't want to spend a lot of money replacing switches and relays for no reason. has anyone ran into this before? Any help troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated.

 

When i had this problem in the past in my VW, it was the solenoid that was the problem. The solenoid pushes the gear up to the flywheel. Also, suggest you check and clean up all wiring connections.
