Post 99 v6 auto trans no 2nd gear

So my 99 accord was shifting hard into 2nd gear but now it doesn't want to go in at all. The engine will rev but nothing happens for awhile. It finally got going and I got home, been parked since. Tomorrow I will do a drain and refill. Is there a fix or is it time for a new tranny?

Beg/Borrow/Steal an OBDII code reader. Check for codes.

Took it to a dealer before it went totally bad, they said no tranny codes. Who else has code readers?

Most chain auto stores will do it for free(not Calif) or you can rent it from Autozone/Oreilly under their 'free' rental. You place a deposit on a CC and when you return it they refund your money.

Did a 3 quart drain and refill. Also went to O'Reilly and there were no codes. The fluid was dark and there was some sludge on the magnet. I also removed the solenoid on the top of the tranny and there was a little stuff on the screens but not much. Drove it a little and it will shift into second only when I let the rpms drop to idle (sometimes). Didn't want to drop down for passing gear either.

You need a full rebuild. Your 2nd gear is torched because of poor fluid flow in the converter and a leaking clutch pressure control valve internal to the transmission. Superior makes a shift kit to correct these problems, including an enhancement to the 1-2 and 2-1 shift.

You will need:
A converter (reuse at your own risk, not smart)
Overhaul kit, including seals, frictions, and steels + molded balance pistons.
Shift correction kit from superior.
Tools + fluids.

Doing this right will cost you around 600 dollars if you perform the work yourself.

Thanks slowcivic2k for the reply. Yeah I think the last time I drove it, it was going from 1st to 3rd and skipping second completely. There are so many pieces in a tranny I think I'll just get a rebuilt one. Has anyone used Willow Creek Transmission in S. Carolina?
