Default its sticky

i just bought my wife an 02 Accord ex 3.0 and today was the first time since I bought it that I could attend to those small used car details and one of those details was the cubby under the radio in front of the shifter.

it looks like its covered from the factory in a rubber like stuff and it feels sticky so I washed it in warm water and after I dried it the cubby was still sticky. is this common among this model or is it a freak thing?

I plan on replacing it but if its a common issue i'll just let it be.

Did you only wash it in warm water? That won't get off any spilled fluids that have turned to gunk. Simple Green mixed in the water should do it.

yea, I used warm water and let it flow for a bit and then washed it. as I look at it more im thinking something got on it or was used on it to break down the rubber coating on it.

im gonna hit the yard and look for another or if I cant find one there get one from ebay.
