Default 99 Accord knock sensor

Hi all -

Sorry if this topic has been covered before, but I have a question about the knock sensor in my 1999 Accord EX (4 cylinder, F23A1).

I had a burnt exhaust valve replaced a couple of weeks ago. Before the valve was replaced, the knock sensor activated and put the car into limp mode due to misfire.

The shop is telling me the knock sensor needs to be replaced. I ordered one from Rock Auto, but they sent me the wrong one (threads were too big; I think it was the one for the V6).

My question is: if I wait awhile to replace this thing, will it hurt the engine in any way? The check engine light is on and will remain on until I replace it, but I'm wondering if it will do any damage. Thanks!

No but the car should run in limp mode which means it will just run like crap.
