Mystery B Motor I bought for $50 lots of Pics
Ok so I went out an got a full B16A short block from Craigslist that had apparently spun a bearing....well First off the guy I bought it from (he is a old Honda dealer Tech) said he bought a civic chassis from some kid who couldnt fix it. It apparently had a bad knock from a "spun" bearing. Anyways it sat for years until he decided to clear out his old stuff. He noted that he thought it was odd a GSR P72 head would be swapped onto a B16A...so did I since I saw it had P72 pistons....I got P72 mixed up with P73 in my head an said hey someone put ITR pistons into it.....oops my bad lol.
Anyways tonight during our tear down of the short block I noticed hey thats weird they put a P72 oil pan on it..ok...then hey they put a Crank Girdle on it...weird but ok....then WTF P72 stamped rods...thats impossible to fit into a B16A an not have the pistons pop out the top right?
Then upon closer inspection of the Block I found P72 markings on it and after really looking at the serial number plate it looks as if someone cut one off a B16 and welded it over a B18C for god knows why.... anyways tell me what you guys think. Also I measured the Height of the Sleeve and it was right about 5.45 inches which is 138.4MM

The reason for the "rod knock/spun bearing"

Probably cant fix that

Anyone have any idea if the damage to the sleeves/block can be welded/repaired for it to still be usable or are the sleeves scrap now and I'd be better off shelving this until until it can get sleeved?
You can get it sleeved and the bolt cut out by EDM. You could also just get a good block for less. A machine shop might buy it off your for the crank.
Man some people just cant play by the rules huh lol
Getting it sleeved is the last option...if I can get money back out of this thing I'd be pretty damn happy.

I'd cut your losses and find another block bud, they aren't that hard to find. going 82mm on stock sleeves is risky especially if they have prior damage. Either get this one fully sleeved or pick up another and start your build.
No I'm Building a B20V for my DD car,
I picked this block up cause it was a descent deal and figured it would be smart to have a spare block just in case.....$50 for a full short block isn't a bad deal any way you slice it. If You take a close look at the pic down the sleeve you can see where its damaged from the bent rod.....depending on the how high that damage goes I think I might be able to salvage the sleeves by getting over sized pistons(82mm) and measure for clearance of the oil control ring when at BDC.....if the damage to the sleeves doesn't go that high then all thats left to do is make sure that the sleeve to water jacket isnt damaged...if thats the case this thing will be good for a rebuild.
at least thats my thinking.....worst case scenario I sell the sensors and Crank to break even or get a little extra money back out of it then scrap the block or hold onto it to eventually get sleeves installed.
