I have a stock DX, I need a new radiator and have been checking out some on eBay, have searched a bit on here and was just curious if anyone has had any luck with a particular brand. I am looking at the 2 row ones that are all aluminum. I have also see some posted here from DNA Motoring for $45 shipped, just wondering if anyone can vouch for those too. Thanks a bunch.

 

They work fine. I haven't seen or experienced any issues with the few I've been around/installed.

Please get a fan with a shroud if you do get one of these, slim fans don't do **** without a proper shroud.

Just el-cheapo aluminum rads in general. Idk if I've ever experienced the DNA racing one. I've never bought a cheap radiator for myself. But I have bought cars with them on there and I have installed installed them.

Those cheap flimsy plastic fans barely push any cfm even with a shroud!

 

Apparently I can bolt on the stock shroud and fan with the DNA one according to their post, think I might lean towards one of those. They seem to have a warranty and I like supporting the people on HT.

I didn't see anyone mention the larger hose size usually needed for the aluminum "racing" radiators (including knock offs). You said you have a DX which I believe is a D series motor. Almost every Aluminum rad I've seen needs B series main hoses. I hear you can get the D series to fit but it's a real tight fit and you are stretching the hose to it's limits.

Other than that, there have been no complaints I can remember seeing.

 

Any aluminum radiator of eBay will work great. Brand won't make much different, size will (W x H x D). Most name brand companies buy china aluminum radiators and slap their own name on it. I've also used the $15 slim electric fans for years from eBay without any problems.

CX racing is the last one I purchased - no complaints.

 

Just go with full aluminum and you'll be fine. I hate the half plastic half aluminum crap, it always ends up leaking at the seam

 

I have a DNA Tuning rad in my civic. I installed it when I still had my d15 under the hood. I gave up trying to shove the D series hose on the top, so I purchased a 99 si top radiator hose and it fit fine to the block. the bottom hose will fit on the radiator with no issues. don't reuse the stock honda clamps, get regular hose clamps and you'll be ok. The radiator held up well for the roughly 2k miles that I used it. Before I parked the car for the winter it worked fine with my gsr swap. I really have no complaints about it. The stock fan/shroud will bolt to it. the one hole on the bottom was a little offset, but it will bolt in ok.

 

Yes as a heads up the 2 row civic radiators from DNA have 1.25 in inlets, this is the b series size, I was looking for this as I have a B16a. I believe the d series hoses are for a 1 1/8 in inlet on the rad

 

If you're going to use the stock fan and shroud you may need to use zip ties for the overflow container as that was one of the reasons why my Koyo 58mm radiator and Go Autoworks radiator touched the hood.

You can see the overflow is a tight fit.


I ended up sliding the overflow out of the track and used zip ties to secure it in the same general area without pushing the radiator forward.

its not that bad of a fit.. the overflow does fit a bit tight in there though... I can't remember off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure that it does fit normally without the use of ties, but I do remember that it is pretty snug once its in the whole way.

I had one of these on my integra, actually 2, no issues with it leaking. Its still going strong right now for 7 yrs on my sisters integra.

 

The other thing you should be aware of is if you have an automatic transmission, there isn't any provisions in the dual core aluminum radiators that I've seen.

All the all aluminum I've seen are for manual transmissions only.

 

Mishimoto has provisions for the auto tranny cooler if I IIRC.

 

^^ for the Civic rad, there are no ports in the Mishi one.

 

Correct. I just realized you have to buy the transmission cooler separately.
