D.Sensate 2001 CRV
Hello to all!
I am new to all things Honda. Just purchased a battered 2001 CRV 5-speed with 217K miles on it.
Having to learn the fun and interesting things about Hondas and the B20Z engine:
- Fuel line fell apart and I replaced it and a brake line. Bled brakes... All good. Is there a better replacement line guard than the plastic salt trap that was on it??
- Power steering pump is leaking like mad. Surprised me how hard it is to steer without power assist!! My old 79 Power Wagon had no trouble without pump, but then its steering wheel was a bit bigger.
- P0420 code is on in the ECU. Still checking to see if it's the Cat or O2 sensors. Performed ECU reset with warm engine and idled at 2500rpm. Cycled ignition and went for a drive. CEL back on after 20 miles or so. ECU reset distinctly improved idle and, I think, efficiency.. maybe.
- Rear fenders and rockers are shot to hell.
- looks like rear-left sway bar link fell off.
- bolts on Cat rusted off- replaced. And, of course muffler coupling rotted apart- replaced.
- increasing "roaring" noise as speed increases to high way speeds. The volume of noise increases with road speed and not RPM. No clacking or clicking on turns. Pitch does not seem to vary with left or right hard turns at 45+mph. So, not sure if CV or Bearings. Thoughts??
I must say the Gen1 CRVs are a blast and I love driving a stick again. I missed my old Ford Bronco (full size) and Dodge Ram 1500 QC. The CRV is a very nice and fun compromise between the trucks I've owned and the sporty-er cars I've owned. (2x 89 Dodge Daytona ES, 2001 Neon R/T, 2x Nissan Sentra 08 and 12)
Apparently I should seriously look into getting the valves adjusted. ??
