Used car experience?
Just curious what everyones experience has been when it came to buying a used s2000?
Looking to spend about $15k Hoping to get something about 50-70k range.
Other option was a new car like a Fit. Or just getting a used RSX type S with 100k miles and pretty much not have any car payments.

Stick with the Fit for reliable transportation, or go with the RSX-S if you want something to tinker with. With a few mods and tuning, you can make the RSX actually faster then the S2k.
If you keep your eyes open, and you're willing to travel, you might find a awesome deal. My cousin got his 2004 S2000 back in 2009 for 17k, and it had 17,000 miles on it, it was kept in very VERY good condition. The guy even gave the hardtop along with the deal. Garage kept, no rain, no snow.
He had to fly to Minnesota to get it, and drive it back the 1000 miles home. But for that deal it was worth it. I'd drive across the U.S. for a good deal if its the right car. Would you?
The sunnier the state, the worst the deal. The colder the state, the better the deal.
Maybe.... That's all just speculative.

deals are there...be patient, they happen.
I was set to buy a 2002 with 67k for 12k....needed to finance some of it...bank wouldn't deal with anything over 2003....
ended up wit ha 03 with 104k and a set of work vs-xx wheels for 10.6k
I was being picky on what color and options I wanted, if I was open to anyother colors that yellow or Silverstone there were other deals

Whuuuut? No they're not, and you can easily get a sub 70k mile s2000 for under $15k...
if you're choosing between a compact econobox 4door, a 2door coupe hatchback that's a sporty compact and an S2000, you have no idea what you actually want. buy an evo, it does basically everything all 3 cars do.

Fit would be for reliablitity confidence at the same price with a sacrifice in speed.
S2000 would be fun factor but not 100% reliability and it has been on the to do list.
Elaborate.
Didn't know it took a particular IQ to drive an s2000. If I did well in an LS6 powered FC than an s2k should require less of my attention.
Do you need my Mensa membership card too?

Were you able to get the 2003 financed or was the paid in full? Was it a credit union or big chain bank you got the loan through if so.
Your OP show's me that youre an idiot and shouldn't be driving a RWD anything. You might as well have posted "Want to buy a car, what should I get? How can I pay for it?"
Stick to the Fit junior.

The s2k is just as reliable as any other honda. If you take care of it and don't beat on it/ launch it 24/7 it will take care of you.
That said, they suck to drive in the snow, keep that in mind.
I can tell from your posts that youre young and don't have a ton of money to spend on properly maintaining an S2k. These are not Civics, and every time a kid such as yourself buys one, my S2k gets a little less special.

Moving on.
Good to hear, guess I am more afraid of how the previous owner treated the car and me suffering the consequences later on from that.
They aren't bad in the snow at all if you get SNOW tires. If you're driving around on all seasons or summer tires it's going to suck. There's only a handful of people that winter drive them, but they'll attest to driving on snow tires.
I financed 11k on a 03 with 106k at 4.xx%
They would not finance 12k for a 02 with 60k because of age, even though it booked for a few grand more.....oh well, more than happy with my purchase
This was a second loan with them. I also have my ridgeline financed at 3.2x% ....5/3rd was the nexf best at a 15% with a 5% drop after 1 year of on time payments
Edit: also the banks wanted a 1 or 2 yr loan on a vehicle past 5or 7years old...something like that....5he c.u. did a standard 48mo because of the type of vehicle
Bought my 06 w/ 99k on the clock back in June for $15k. Sold my bike so I wanted something fun that I can drive without worring about getting caught out in the rain. The night I sold my bike I trolled CL and found it right up the street so I lucked out on that, bone stock too minus some Koni yellows. Emailed the seller and picked it up the next day. Now I drive it more than my EM1 and not a single problem yet.

Pat,
I bought my 06 with 66K on the clock last year for 16.5. Seems that prices have gone up since then, as a car with similar specs is probably closer to 18, 19k these days.
AP2V1 (04-05) with low miles won't have much, if any discount, main disadvantage is not being able to tune A:F with Hondata on AP2V1's. You're stuck with VAFC/E-manage unless you go full EMS route.
In your price range you could probably find an AP1 with 70-80k miles. AP1's pretty different vs. AP2, most notably due to engine and suspension differences.
Grand Prix White will fetch a premium as it is the most desired color. Silverstone metallic seems to be the most common color to find. Black, red, and CBM are also fairly common and don't command any premium.
Things to look out for when purchasing: soft top condition, as replacing the ST is a pain in the ***/expensive. S2000's also consume some oil, just not sure how you discover whether the candidate car has this problem or not. Other than that, it's like buying any other used Honda.
