radio is on with key out of ignition
Well I've come up with a new problem. While fixing the car for the other issues at hand I've discovered my radio now still has power with the key off and out of the ignition. Sometimes I feel my car is possessed or something. Oh all the codes n stuff I was getting are still there so I've decided to just change the distributor, ignition coil and main relay. Hopefully this will fix that problem. If not then I will look at the ecm and tcm. Back to the radio, could it be the ignition switch or the accessory power relay? I'm a lil puzzled here. Thx in advance guys!!!
My car is a 92 accord. They had not started the "open door radio goes off" yet. Also my radio has been playing fine for more than 2 years now the power stays on when the key is out.
You probably have short at either of the following:
• Ignition switch
• Wiring (the Wht/Blk power wire from the ignition switch to the under-dash fuse box or the Yel/Red power wire coming from the under-dash fuse box to the radio)
Wht/Blk is a wire with white colored insulation and a black stripe running through it. Yel/Red is a wire with yellow insulation and a red stripe running through it.
The short can be an accidental connection of a wire to another wire; or can be the electrical contacts of the ignition switch shorted closed.
With the ignition off, check the Wht/Blk coming from the ignition switch to see if there is battery power. If there is power on the Wht/Blk wire with the ignition switch off, then the problem is either a faulty ignition switch or some other power wire may possibly be touching the Wht/Blk wire. With a voltmeter, touch the voltmeter's red lead to the Wht/Blk wire and the voltmeter's black lead to body ground (for example, a metal bracket on the car, etc) to test.
You may have to backprobe the ignition switch Wht/Blk wire. Backprobing is either using a backprobe set or using a thin needle or something and making contact with the metal terminal of the connector without piercing the wire in the back of the still connected connector. Care must be taken to ensure that the wiring does not get damaged. You can use something like a T pin, available at Walmart, etc., and backprobe.
If there is no power on the ignition switch’s Wht/Blk wire, then the issue is probably after the under-dash fuse box on the Yel/Red wire going to the radio.

And what year Accord did they have that option? I'll wait for your reply.
OP- Tech8 posted some great info but I'd like to ask a question or two.
Is this a factory radio?
Do you leave a "device" plugged into the cig socket?
You stated "other" issues. Did you recently "fix/move/correct" something else and this issue showed up?
