Distributor leaking and chopped
94 Honda civic. DX
jdm d15b swap.
the shop that installed the engine chose to hack up the original distributor so it looks ghetto, and now its leaking.. my question is one.. vtec isn't hooked up but im planning on in the very near future after addressing the vtec solenoid leak.
question. should the distributor be replaced with the correct model before attempting to wiring vtec solenoid ?
im on a very tight budget at the moment so if I can just replace the rings and keep this one I'd prefer until I can get some extra cash.

For the mean time check to make sure its just the distributor oring and not an internal leak. You'll be fine until you can get some cash for the correct one.
Post pictures. Are you sure the oil leak is from the distributor rather than the known leaking VTEC solenoid?

That's consistent with a distributor O-ring leak, but can you post picture from the other side showing both the distributor/head and VTEC solenoid? For example, might the VTEC solenoid be throwing oil in a way that gives the false impression that the O-ring is leaking?
Edit: You posted the picture while I was posting.
My recommendation would be to fix the VTEC oil leak and then go from there to see whether the oil leak below the distributor ceases.

I pulled the vtec solenoid off. I'm scared to pull off the distributor because I'm still not sure how the timing works.
The shop hacked the heck out of it so it would fix instead of buying a new one.
Should I just get towels to clean or some kind of cleaner

Possibly, though the bolts seem to have purchase.
So I replaced the distributor mounting gasket, went on extremely easy. Almost too easy. I hope it was the right size.
Anyway, vtec solenoid and dizzy gaskets changed and I finally wired the vtec solenoid, ran wires through the fire wall. All I need is to wire into ecu
