Icon2 D16 Compatibility Question's..?

So I have a '99 Civic Ex Coupe and after 302k miles the motor is finally needing replacement. I wanted to know what motors I would be able to swap into it without much conflict. The car currently has a D16y8 motor in it and a buddy has a D16y7 motor available. Does anybody know if the y7 motor will go directly into the y8 spot?

I'm aware that the answer to this question may be one here somewhere but I was hoping that it may be easier if someone just could tell me. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks-

You failed to mention if you have an autotragic, or standard transmission. If you have the correct option, then yes, you can install your "buddy"'s Y7, as long as you also use a Y7 ECU. Just use your intake manifold and throttle body, along with his injectors. If you have the wrong option, then it's a bit more complicated than just swapping an engine.

The Y8 is VTEC, the Y7 is not. You will need the Y7 ECU. The Y7 will be looking for a 3-wire IACV sensor which your Y8 manifold does not have unless it's automatic so you might need to use the Y7 IM.

And transmission. From 96 on up the ECU controls the transmission too so it's all mated together, Engine, ECU and Transmission if you wish to keep it smooth and operating at peek efficiency.

Things that will make your life a living hemorrhoid is if the Y7 is from a manual because you won't be able to use the ECU unless you also do a auto to manual swap in the process. But that also means getting a manual D series transmission to mate up to it.

If the Y7 ECU is auto, it will run with your transmission but shift like crap and from what I understand, the 96-00 transmissions are already problem prone. Might end up killing it even more prematurely than they already like to die.
