i just want to knock to ecu for neptuneRTP to record AFR
i dont need the gauge
i use the ECU on open loop, and netuneRTP has a calibration table

i still need the controller ?

Yes you still need the controller, but not the gauge.

The innovate mtx-L is under $150, so get that.

Who said anything about a gauge? I said CONTROLLER... Sure, some gauges have the controller built into them but you still need a CONTROLLER to interpret what the O2 sensor is reading. Wideband O2 sensors are different than narrow bands. A couple of the cheaper companies that sell controller only units are AEM, INNOVATE, and PLX.

Just an FYI, you would be wise to have a gauge as well, to ensure the voltage offset in your ecu is correct so that the afr reading is accurate. You don't need to leave it hooked up, just use it for setup.

Once you have the controller you'll then need to connect the 0-5v output from the controller to D14 (ECU)

is the A26 ground better than A23 ground to connect the LC1 ground ?
