Default new to this. but. ive been researching and trying!!

okay, to start off with my names kyle
i have a 92 honda accord lx coupe with a 2.2L w/o vtec.

1- how do i know what motor i have? i believe i have the F22a1.. but im trying to figure out what kind of trans i have. any thoughts? i looked on this mechanic website i use for school - prodemand.com - and it said APX4? for a transmission..

2- engine swap - ive been reading.. and reading for about 10 hours about this swap.. and the best choice is a H22a1? out of a prelude? correct me if im wrong.

3- vtec - ive looked at fourms how to wire vtec.. but it was saying about the solenoid? do i have to buy one..? or is it already on my 92 accord.. if so where could i find it..? also- vtec op switchh... location? do i need to purchase? or should i just buy a whole new wiring harness, and ecu?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR IN ADVANCE!

Open hood.
Stand in front of the car.
Look at the water outlet that faces the radiator, short upper rad hose, look down. You will see the starter mounted to the transmission, on the engine block there will be a large pad where cast into the block will be the engine type. You will see 'F22A1' if the engine is an F22A1, if it has a different engine or been replaced, it will have 'F22A6', 'F22B2', 'H22A', etc. Letters will be ~1" tall. Hard to miss unless the engine is filthy.

Transmission should have a barcode sticker on it. This sticker will have a four letter designation, IIRC this label should be on the bellhousing on MT where the starter mounts. Unless the transmission is filthy it will be hard to miss.
AT cars will have the sticker on the side of the case facing the radiator above the dip stick.

Depends on what you want. H22 is 190HP but it is also a short stroke engine that is engineered to rev, if you pair it with the stock Accord trans it will not perform like a H22 Prelude, you will need to use the trans it came with from the factory with the H22 to perform like an H22 Prelude.

If you don't want to replace the entire drivetrain and purely only want to do an engine swap then stick with an F series or H23.

VTEC solenoid, and oil pressure switch are part of the engine and will be attached to it. If they are removed by an importer local salvage yarde, don't use them. They will try and nickel and dime you with parts.

Go to the top of the forum and look at the Accord FAQ, there is engine swap information in it.
