Default Bad gas mileage and car bogs and back fires

OK so here it goes

I bought a 1992 Civic CX about 6 months ago. the car need help a lot of help. It bogged and backfired from day one. I assumed it was because it sat so long. I drove and burned up the fuel and then but 5 gallons of gas in with a new fuel strainer, filter, plugs, and it already had a new distributor but I changed the cap and rotor anyway. Also changed the oil and cleaned it out with sea-foam both through the gas and the vacuum. The car started running better and stopped bogging and backfiring so much to only every now and again. but noticed I had no power in 5th gear, the car was dying pretty much so I figured since the gears are so long and I do mostly close city driving no need to use 5th. then 3 days ago me upper radiator hose blew and had to drive the car on and off to my house which was about 20 miles. I replaced the hose and done a block test to test for blown head gasket. The previous mentioned symptom's of backfiring and bogging came back but worse now. Any ideas other than rushing my B20 swap in. I'm trying to not do the swap yet till I have everything so its done right at one time. Also would like to keep this motor as a reliable back up just incase.

I don't understand why people like to spend money before actually diagnosing a problem. Like, "My engine backfires so I replaced blah blah blah blah"... Why not figure out exactly why it's acting up and fix it? Yes it could be a combination of smaller issues but that's not the way to properly FIX a problem.

OP before you start spending time on your bogging issue, you may want to figure out why your cooling system is overheating.

It has a D15Z1. There is no cel. I replaced previous mention parts because the car sat for a while before I bought it and I want to replace those items for peace of mind. I replace the spark plugs in the backfiring misfire and one away however I'm still getting bad gas mileage. I'm getting about 20 to 22 miles a gallon when I should be getting more. I wondering if lack of a thermostat is causing the motor to run to cold and causing it to dump more fuel.

Which ECU are you using?

What type of O2 sensor?

Is everything stock on the D15Z1 (EGR intact, OEM plugs)? Any mods?

Why did you remove the thermostat?

Also need to check compression and timing... post results here.

Everything is stock. Will be checking the timing tomorrow. Removed the thermostat cause it was bad and cause the car to overheat. Did it as a temporary fix.

I have to ask, if you replaced everything else than why not replace the thermostat?

Check your tps and map sensors. Your fuel injectors could be clogged from sitting for so long.
