2001 Accord EX 4-cylinder help??
My '01 Accord EX 4 cylinder has the audio buttons as well as cruise on the steering wheel, where nothing there works not even the horn. I know the clock spring/cable reel is bad and my question is: is there a difference in the clock spring/cable reel, and is there anything special I would have to do, to get all those things working again? Also, it consumes way too much gas for a 4 banger, any information on that is also appreciated. I appreciate all input and will give it a try thank you in advance.
If your warning lights are not functioning when ignition is turned to II(ON) then the lamps may be burned out.
CEL, D4 ABS and SRS should illuminate when initially turning the key to II(ON). If not the lamps are burned out or disabled. You will then need an OBDII code reader to pull any codes that may be stored in the various system memories. I'm guessing you have a few.

Also, put it on the OBD CODE READER and no codes are present.
you will need the clock spring specific to your options and trim.
these are easy to screw up and damage if they are not installed correctly. I can send you the install instructions if you decide to replace it.
I've dealt with several failures from these clock springs in this model. you've got the typical set of symptoms and I bet a properly installed replacement would take care of the issue.
for your MPG dissatisfaction, all the normal things need to be attended to:
complete tune-up (including a new primary O2 sensor), no CEL on or codes stored, tires- [good pressure, normal looking wear, correct size], brakes aren't dragging, right foot doesn't spend too much time at the floor...

Haynes isn't that great when it comes to things like this. I should be able relay some info to you this afternoon.

basically the only thing that isn't straight forward is the centering of the cable reel if it's not locked from the factory. turn clockwise until it stops, then about 2.5 turns counterclockwise until the arrow points up. then put it all back together.
