Hey guys I just recently started to wet sand my carbon fiber parts for re clearing: trunk, sunroof cap, jdp lip, hood and rear diffusers . I started with 800 grit and finished with 1000 grit. Its all set for clear coat. Now i bought dupicolor clear coat but something told me ask about it first before i start painting. This is the second time im restoring my carbon fiber parts, the first time i used rattle can clear coat. Didnt last 1.5 years. this time around I wanted to do it right and have much better equipment now. Do you guys think this clear coat will last longer? Is there a better clear coat to use? thanks in advance.

 

Yes it should last longer, but the quality still sucks over actual Dupont products. They mix that stuff so thin, and they use cheap quality. Also 1000 grit is to fine of a sand scratch to have the clear hold, 800 max is all you need.

 

Agreed with all above. I think 3M makes a decent spray can clear. Pay the extra monies to get some good stuff, and I would not go above 600 personally for clear coat.

 

Add uv protectant?

 

Clear is your UV protection, you want a min of 2mills of clear, that's why that Dupont stuff sucks

 

I agree 600 max for clear coat.... I personally think all spray can clear sucks but that's my opinion...

 

I use the 2k clears for a lot of my parts. Once you mix the spray can you can freeze it and it will keep for about 3 days. The cans cost 20 a pop.

2k vs enamel or acrylic is a completely different ball game. Laquer and acrylic general do not have a uv modifier... Since.... They don't need the modifier. 2k urethane needs uv modifiers so it doesn't yellow itself as I understand it.
