Default Exhaust question

This might be a dumb question. I'm wanting to put a header on my 2000 Accord. Eventually putting a turbo kit on it. Right before the cat, there's a section that kinda looks like steel braided line. What is that and the purpose? I've found some different headers on eBay and such, some have those and some don't. My car has been lowered, and that piece on my car now is pretty beat from dragging. Should I be worried about that piece being on the header?

Thanks.

Its a flex pipe. Allows for movement of the engine with out breaking the exhaust.

Thank you. I've noticed them on other cars, not knowing what was inside them, assumed it was either a flex thing or something to do with emissions. Wanted to make sure before deleting it.

Once I go with a header, what different types of mufflers are good? My cat has already been hollowed out. Don't really like the sound of allot of the big "can" type mufflers you see on allot of imports. Thinking back to my old VW days, I liked the sound of a quiet pack or turbo tip guys ran on old VW's. Was wondering if there were similar type mufflers for imports.

Thought about maybe getting a quiet pack or turbo tip and making my own brackets to adapt it to my Honda. Not sure how well that would work though.

Thanks.

For a muffler, have a look at Jones Exhaust Full Boar Max Flow. "Full Boar" is their performance product line. "Max Flow" is the straight-through perforated core oval comparable to a Magnaflow universal oval. The Jones however has a much better price over the Magnaflow with similar or better quality.

this site explains the tech and inner workings of their different models.
Also, many different sizes are available at Summitracing.com.

Summit also sells the exhaust flex sections in different ODs and lengths if you need to add that in.
