i just installed a twin loop replica muffler, and there is a little bit (alot) of rattling in the middle rpms. around 3.5 k. i'm assuming that the vibrations from the exhaust are knocking against some part of the chassi or suspesion or something. i'm thinking i could wrap the piping with some kind of exhaust wrap or header wrap or something that may be able to quiet it. can i use header wrap? is it expensive? my other alternative is to use surgical tape, that somewhat thin fabric tape. obviously im going to get someone who will tell me that they would like to watch my car go up in flames... but thats why im asking. i just want something that will cease the rattling. any suggestions?
Check the heat shield on top of the catalytic converter for the rattle. Header wrap is not a good idea, as it will most likely cause your exhaust to corrode. The regular fabric tape will catch on fire.

know for a fact its not that cat, only piece of exhaust i touched was the axelback section. i just need a way to quiet it down. only rattle through 3-4k rpms. after that its all golden. might take it to a muffler shop and have them weld a new piece of piping on, that may be the cause, but around that much the muffler is vibrating at just enough to graze something under there and its loud as hell and i don't like it haha.

figured it out. THIS PIECE:

is buzzing against THIS PIECE:
cause: shitty weldup, hangers are a little too far to the left of the car, needs to be about a half in or an inch over to the drivers side, should fix problem. should i be able to bed these myself using hammer or something? the exhaust is a temp. I just want it to stop buzzing.

Face it, you bought an inferior product and this is the price you pay when you decide to save a few bucks. Your best bet would be to ditch that p.o.s. and invest in a product that was tested to make sure none of the things you are experiencing occur.

it is a js racing muffler that whoever welded the axelback section on didn't measure it up correctly, not inferior product, inferior work to get it put on. cut corners etc. Unfortunately you were not the least bit helpful to my cause. did i not mention this muffler was a temp? I have plans for my car, this is just appeasing my lust for parts along the way so I don't go bankrupt right off the bat. Now i was going to try to be polite, but i'm sick of people here giving me bullshit reponses that are absolutely not helpful at all. So if you don't have anything HELPFUL to say regarding TOPIC and not what i SHOULD have done... you can leave the thread and DON"T POST!!!

I honestly don't ever recall there being a J's Racing twin loop. IIRC, Mugen was the first and shortly after, there was DC (different design). Then all the replicas entered the market.
To answer your question, I would have a muffler shop fix your problem. I do not recommend wrapping the muffler with anything. There is nothing I can think of that will reduce the noise and won't catch fire.. You will have to have them reposition the hangers to clear the chassis. In doing so, the muffler may end up hanging alittle lower than you may like.
