Default Taillight Issue

So I'm having a hell of a time with this so I hope someone can shed some light on the subject, literally. I have a 98 CX Hatch. I'm having issues with the fuse for the taillights blowing. Usually it blows the fuse as soon as I turn on the switch to the first light position, however, ever so often it won't. When I have been lucky enough to keep the lights on without the fuse blowing, I have gone around jiggling wires, pulling on wires, etc. I have finally found what is blowing it. Every time the lights are on and I open the hatch, it blows the fuse. Wouldn't this mean that the issue has to be in the wiring where the wire bends? I have successfully blown the fuse twice by opening the hatch. I am fairly mechanically inclined and I feel like I've located the source of the issue but I've been through ten fuses so far so I'm giving up for the night. If anyone can let me know if they've had the same issue or if there is anyone more versed in wiring to let me know I'm on the right track, that would be great. Thanks in advance for the help.

In the future, when trying to diagnose a blowing fuse, buy what's called a breaker fuse. It works like the breakers in your home - instead of popping and needing replacement, when it pops, you just have to flip the switch off and back on again, and you're good to go.

You definitely have a wire grounding out somewhere. It seems like you've narrowed down roughly where the ground is, now you just have to peel away the panelling, pull the wires through, and find the one that's damaged.

I appreciate it. Using a breaker never even crossed my mind. I'm so frustrated with this thing I'm not even thinking straight. I do appreciate the advice though. Thanks!

I would like to report that I solved the issue!!! I tore into the hatch wiring and found two broken wires and two exposed wires in the section between the hatch and body. They're fixed for now but I've got another wiring harness on the way.
